Having an operation abroad and having a problem is greater than if you have a problem after having surgery in Spain.

Recently I have seen two very particular patients who surprised me a great deal. Both had one thing in common. They had been to a Latin American country for an operation and both had returned with surgeries that they did not want. I couldn’t believe it. How is it even possible?

Well yes. One of them went to have one surgery and came out with 3 more. And the other went to have a reduction surgery and they did an enhancement. I still couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Something like that here would lead to a court case.

On top of this, things did not go well for either patient. So now how do you reclaim from a surgeon that is 10000 kilometres away with a 6 hour time difference? You don’t go back. And what at first has allowed you to save a few pennies (because it’s not more than that even if you think it is), turns into a nightmare, an unpleasantness, frustration and a cost that, in the best case scenario will only be doubled.

My advice. Do not go to another country. We have extremely experimented doctors and hospitals that countries so ‘advanced’ like the United Kingdom and Italy wish they had. Do not skimp on your health. Buy the TV online if it’s cheaper than El Corte Inglés, but in a surgery, do not skimp, as you are putting at risk the only important thing you have, which is your health. Money can come and go and eventually be recuperated. The other cannot.
