When we have extra skin on the arms, with the passing of time or with being overweight or with a great weight loss, patients come to us saying that, when they move their arms back and forward, the skin hangs down too much and that they dont wear any clothes without sleeves because they dont like their arms. The patients have distinct different names for their arms. Some say that are like bat wings, others call them ¨bingo wings¨. Also , many patients say that no matter how much weightlifting they do, they cannot remove this excess droopy sklin. They say that they wont wear sleeveless clothes. They dont like how their arms movewhen walking or gesticulating, they also have a lot of wrinkles and dont like anyone to see their arms.
The treatment consists in removing the excess skin and fat from the arms, with an incision that goes inside the arm, from the armpit to the elbow or more if necessary. It is well hidden being on the underside of the arm, so is not seen when walking and reduces with time. The result is a more toned arm, less wrinkles, less droopy, younger aspect.
The arm lift can be associated with other surgeries, such as breast reduction or abdominoplasty, for example. Consult your plastic surgeon to see if its possible to do both surgeries on the same day. For some patients, due to the amount of fat and skin to be removed, its better to leave time between each surgery, for safety reasons. Everyone is suitable for this kind of surgery. If your state of health permits a surgical intervention and you are looking to improve your arms, also of age, this can be done.
Any surgical intervention has risks. Our surgeons will explain to each patient in their case, but at this moment with the technology and techniques applied, the arm lift is a routine surgery with very few incidents of complications. It your job involves intense activity, we recommend at least 15 days rest and if you have a less strenuous job, 7 days would be sufficient.
You can exercise or lift weight one month after surgery. If you can, we recommend that you dont do any weight lifting at the gym, which implies the movement of your arm muscles.
After two weeks post surgery, you can wax or shave.
Its not necessary to use a special corset after arm surgery.
You will be uncomfortable after the surgery. You will have aching sensations, slight pulling feeling and some pressure. You will take medication for the pain, so that, it will be more annoying the uncomfortableness when trying to sleep, the antibiotics etc than the pain.
The scars from an arm lift in general, are good. The incision is done on the part of the arm less visible. With the use of laser Urgotouch once the wound is stitched, the quality of the scars will be much better.

The arm lift is a surgery performed under general anesthetic, and is generally done as an outpatient, no hospital stay necessary. You will be given your room upon arrival and then be taken to the operating theatre, where our doctors will see you and answer any last minute questions. You will meet the rest of the operating team, nurses, helpers etc. A video and photographs will be taken, so as to have the before surgery images. They will also mark the areas to be treated. They will explain again where the incisions will take place. The incisions will be done on the areas to be treated. They will filter, on each area, a liquid of general anesthetic and adrenalin so as to form a least amount of bruising possible. Through an in-out movement with a cannula connected to a liposuctor, the fat is extracted in small amounts. Once done, they will calculate the amount of skin to be removed and will follow through.After this, the wounds will be closed with stitches that do not need to be removed, they are covered with steri strips and a dressing. If yours is an outpatient surgery, once finished you will be discharged. If you need to stay in the hospital, you will be taken to your room for the next 24 hours.
You will be accompanied by our team at all times during your recuperation. You will take antibiotics and pain killers, if you claim to have them. Its normal that you may have some bruising, which will disappear bit by bit, with the recommendations that we will give. You should walk about at home and drink lots of water and eat healthily. Our surgeons will let you know when you can return to work. Also, when you can begin to exercise or drive. Its best that you dont drink alcohol nor smoke during a few weeks post surgery, as tobacco slows the healing process. The bruises and swelling, will ease and after a few weeks you will see the results.
All of the revisions until given the all clear are included in the quote given. The patients have their first revisión 48-72 hrs after having left the hospital. The next visit is one week after surgery, then at 2 weeks, one month, 3 months and six months, plus any other time needed until given the all clear.
