Surgery of the abdomen

You may also have trouble improving certain areas of your body, especially the abdomen. Unfortunately, the hanging skin or the relaxation of the muscles in the abdominal area cannot be recovered only with exercise. And it is very common in both men and women.

Frequent questions

Logically it depends on the type of work the patient has. It is not the same with a job that requires a lot of physical effort and another that doesn’t need as much. If you have to strain yourself in your job, we recommend at least three weeks rest and if you are a person with less strain, 7 days should be sufficient.

You can go to the beach or the pool from the moment that the wounds are completely closed which is usually within two weeks

You can exercise and lift weight a month after the surgery. If you can, we recommend that you do not lift weights in the gymnasium as it implies moving the muscles of the abdomen (anterior rectus), in a month and a half.

When you leave the operating theatre, you will be wearing a compressive corset which allows the inflammation to reduce and the body to heal well from that moment on. From the third/fourth day you can shower normally.

You can do this a month after the surgery.

You can sunbathe from the moment we remove the steri-strips (plasters that protect the wound, the stitches are inside and do not need removing, they dissolve naturally), which should be in two weeks. If you are going to the beach you must wear a bikini and use factor 50+ sun protection on the scar.

You can travel perfectly on an aeroplane after the surgery.

We recommend that you wear a compressive corset after the surgery. It improves the result and reduces certain complications such as a seroma. It also allows the abdomen to heal better.

We will show you photographs from previous cases so that you can get a more detailed idea of the final result.

After surgery you will be upset. It will not be pain, but discomfort. You will have a feeling of stiffness, tightness and some pressure. Your muscles will be thrown when you get out of bed or on the couch. He will take pain medication, so that there are more discomforts at bedtime, bandage, antibiotic etc, more than pain, which will cause discomfort.

The scar of an abdominoplasty usually coincides with the bikini line. It is a scar that with time, improves greatly and remains concealed. However, multiple treatments exist which improve the final result of scars such as silicon patches, rosehip oil, creams, laser, etc. etc.

You should avoid taking aspirin or any other medication which provokes anticoagulation. Let us know if you usually take vitamin supplements or medicinal plants. Some make the blood coagulate more slowly.

In general, we recommend any surgical intervention from 18 years and over. Most patients are women demanding this type of surgery after having children. In some cases, we perform them after a large weight loss.
