Effects of Brexit in surgery

I don’t know if anyone has thought about it or if we consider it far off, or something that will not affect us, but Brexit is going to affect us all and greatly. Actually, it already is. Without entering into how the frontier, legislative, merchandise and people movement changes will end up, the value of the Pound Sterling has plummeted and this implies that the Euro and the products bought in Euros, will become a lot less attractive to the British.

For a family from Manchester coming to Spain on holiday is not as cheap as it was before. And this refers to all products. Hotels, restaurants, estate agents, boats, etc. etc. they are all more expensive.

All of this affects us greatly although indirectly; a Spaniard who sells apartments in Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and Benidorm and sees that they do not sell, will reduce his spending due to the descent in his invoicing and this creates a huge chain, taking us back to the times starting with the economic crisis of 2009. It is possible that in Soria, where I believe they do not have a great industrial or tourism flow with the United Kingdom, will not notice it as much but here in the coastal areas it’s different.

I don’t think that it will end in disaster but the British that live here, consume here and receive their pension here have told me that they are very uncertain. That they do not know what is going to happen because even the people who have to manage the situation do not know what is going to happen. And uncertainty is the trigger for many economic problems.

We’ll wait and see how all this develops. There’s not much we can do except demand that our politicians act correctly even though they have little training to be able to affront this issue, to start with they don’t even speak English.

One thing is sure. Sooner or later, if the job is not done correctly, it will affect all of us. Even the guy from Soria.
